Smiling and being thankful

December 8th, 2007

What is it about a smile that everyone wants us to do whenever we are down or we feel that there is something that isn’t right. Is it really as magical as they say it is? Does a smile really help us get rid of any issues or problems we are in? Can a smile really cure any disease?

Well the thing is that no matter how weak you think a smile is, its always going to come out as the strongest magical thing on your lips. We will always be helpless towards things that happen to us, yes we do control some things and one of them is the ability to control our mind as to how serious we will take something and how bad we will allow it to affect us.

A smile in situations when we are down, works like ointment, a lotion of an invisible cream on the very sad face that we might want to hide from the world. But what is it that happens when we smile when we are down? Are we cheating ourselves into thinking we are not hurt when we are? Or are we just boxing ourself into a place with no window to the outside world, or emotions within ourselves.

Whenever you are not feeling well, you either complain to God, relatives, or others who according to you might be the reason for your bitterness or your current situation. We never blame ourselves, do we? And why is that.. is it because we are afraid of the flaws we carry as human beings or is it just that we feel anytime we don’t have a reason to smile, it’s because of others.

We control our thoughts, and those that let the thoughts control them always end up in situations getting carried away with a sad upside-down smile, not only affecting the very nature of their own personality but rubbing off the negativity on everyone they meet and greet.

What happens when we smile?

Unknowingly those that forget the very art of smiling, never realize that apart from being a totally priceless possession, smiling is also something that makes them “live” longer. Why is that you say? Well why wouldn’t it be. The more you smile, the happier you are, the happier you are.. more positive you are, and of course the more positive you are the more better you will feel and the better you will feel the more thankful you will be towards God and what he has given you.

What can we smile and be thankful about?

Smiling doesn’t need a reason, but if you need one. What about the very few things that you are blessed with:-

  • You can talk, while some can’t
  • You can walk, while some can’t
  • You can run, while some can’t
  • You can read, while some can’t
  • You can write, while some can’t
  • You can smell, while some can’t
  • You can taste, while some can’t
  • You get to have food on you table every day, while other’s might not
  • You get to drink clean healthy water, while other’s might not
  • You are lucky that you have kids, while other’s can not have any
  • You are lucky you have parents, while other’s might have lost them

I am sure the list can just go on and on, the reasons to smile will never end neither will the list. Make your own list, and see what other reasons you might have that can cloud over your negativity or sadness.

An amazing post & so well said :) As someone quoted “A Smile is a curve that sets everything straight” A smile is all it takes not just to brighten your own day but may be the only sunshine some one sees that day.It makes the world look brighter, makes problems look smaller. Gives a beautiful look to ones face even though it may be a toothless grin & there is nothing more beautiful than a smiling face.It is contagious & one can see how a smile spreads so many smiles around.A smile spreads warmth, breaks ice between strangers.

As a quote says “A smile costs nothing but gives much. It enriches those who receive without making poorer those who give. It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None is so rich or mighty that he cannot get along without it and none is so poor that he cannot be made rich by it. Yet a smile cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is something that is of no value to anyone until it is given away. Some people are too tired to give you a smile. Give them one of yours, as none needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give.”

So keep smiling & spread the smile virus around :D

If you’re not using your smile, you’re like a man with a million dollars in the bank and no checkbook..

How well this is said. Smile is something we all carry. We all have reasons to smile but we only try to find reasons to frown n cry. A simple smile can give others reason to live. Isnt that enough to make your heart smile thousand times more as well?

Not everybody is blessed with everything in life. Would that make a reason to cry over life ? Absolutely not. In fact, smile back at your life because God has chosen you for the challenges in life. Accept it with all the faith n smile on your face, you will see then those hurdles, those obstacles, those sorrows will smile back at ya. Always smile at your life rather smiling on others life.

Life greets you with ups and downs and everybody goes thru times in life. People with positivity and a smile from within will always clear those paths and the journey becomes much more easier. This might sound a lot easier to be said than done, but a attempt can always be made to smile. It truly is not that hard. Try it for yourself:)

We always say every smile has a tear behind it. Lets put it this way n say every tear has a smile behind it. Which would mean as nite falls, there is a brite morning to look forward as well. Njoi every moment of your life and smile back. Life is way too short and precious to frown and cry over it. Love Your life, you will find lot of reasons to smile:)
