Q : Why educated girls…?

March 15th, 2008
Filed under: Advice corner

Question by a PooraPagal Visitor :

Age:: 19-25

Gender:: Female

Ethnicity:: Pakistani / Indian

Why do some families or the guy be so concerned about the girl being well educated when she is only going to be working home and taking care of the kids? Why are they required to be MA or MBA degreeholders?? Lots of women say my son is so and so educated and I only need this or that type of girl for him, not looking at the girls personality or how she is.. why only education? Because I think sometimes education makes a person stuck up especially the ones who have lots of it..

Why does this happen in our culture…?

    One thing that education sort-of does is makes you deal with a lot of tough situations in life aka reality. It is thus often generalized that an educated women will know whats right and wrong in tough situations and lead the family better.

    But in our society, it’s more of a stereotype I believe. Men often think of (and act) themselves as superior and the oppressed women who become moms often hope someone more educated will atleast break away this dominance.

    Well education if not anything, gives a girl a quiet confidence that no matter what, if things go wrong, she can look after herself. So a girl has to have an education, just as a back up . As for our communities, now with the times changing, women earn as much, if not more as men, at such, not having an education would work to the disadvantage of the woman.

    It would not be wise to say all the grooms are out there are looking for a highly qualified girl as a bride. It depends solely on what he wants from his wife & the woman he expects to be the mom to his kids. For example, If a dr groom seeks a dr for a wife, to me that would make sense because the marriage would have lesser conflits because being a doctoer the woman would understand the pressures on time the husband has . :)
